Keeping Track Of Life

Not easy. And with all of these kids going in so many directions no one is ever completely informed of all that is happening. I try and pass information along as it happens. And here is how it sometimes goes. Yesterday when I picked up my son from practice I said, "John is home sick today."
"You mean Mikey."
"John."
"You mean Mikey is home sick."
"What? John is home sick."
"Why is John home sick?"
"I don't know. He just is."
"Well, he lives at home."
"Yes, and now his is home sick."
"Oh! He is home sick."
"Yes, that is what I am trying to tell you."
"I thought you meant Mikey was homesick because he is in Switzerland."(his brother who is studying abroad)
How do I ever get anything done around here?

  2. I'm always saying to everyone in this house and my family whom I talk to, "didn't I just say this? Did I already tell you this?"I don't know who I tell what to.....

Who's sick? ha! Makes a Momma feel a little nutso at times doesn't it?

  3. THere were three boys in my family. Whenever my mom wanted one of us she called out the first two before reaching the name she wanted. It is a good thing she didn't have Eight!

  5. Well, you DO have a lot of people with a lot going on so there is a lot of opportunity for confusion:)

  16. I keep doing this kind of double entendre thing to myself recently. Reading this I am relieved to discover it's not necessarily senility! Thanks for posting!

  17. This reminds me of "Whose on First" a routine by Abbott and Costello from the 1950's. We have those times when what we communicate gets twisted in real life. Your post reminds me of this fact.

  18. You must have special powers.

A grandma ( a mother of nine) used to forget that her grand kid wasn't her kid. She would realize it when one of her boys who always broke the curfew came late for dinner. Then she would mumble " I thought that every one was at the table".

    Bless her soul.

  32. That is hilarious! And if you don't already do this, may i suggest a very large calendar somewhere that everyone will have a chance to see it every day, like in the restroom where they are captive audience? It can cut down on some of the confusion.

  57. As the mother of two (now adult children), I love coming here. I am continually reminded of the humorous side of child-rearing and then see it magnified through YOUR eyes and experience. Eight kids! Truly child-rearing on steroids.
