Wordless Wednesday

Let's objectify
women in every costume and call it Halloween.

  1. The sad thing is that most women don't see anything wrong...nor do their daughters...grand daughters.

  2. Yep and don't even bother thinking about going to get a drink the weekend of or before. It's like the "holiday" makes it ok for women to dress like that. Ah well, happy WW!

  3. Halloween is now the holiday where all women can walk around like sluts and NOT get unusual looks.

    ReplyDelete
  4. It's our job to tell our granddaughters--and grandsons--why this is wrong. Someone tell me, though, how I raised one daughter who rails against this image and one who thinks it's OK.

  5. Thankgoodness it's just for the kids over here, and then it's not that big.

    ReplyDelete
  6. ugh...aint that the truth...then again, go to a movie or turn on the tv...or the next bikini basketball league to go with the lingerie football league....

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sadly marketers always pander to the lowest common denominator. Sex sells and objectified women are equated with it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Have you heard the comedian Jim Gaffigan's take on Halloween costumes? It is pretty true to life. "I'm little Bo Peep". "Sure you are?" while rolling his eyes. "Looks like a hooker to me."

    ReplyDelete
  9. It's amazing how things have changed through the years. I don't remember these things when I used to dress up.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I can't even look at those "costumes". So sad.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sadly it is the truth and women buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. We are all just Barbie dolls (supposedly) and our culture keeps pounding that message away.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The really sad thing is they make sexy costumes also for little girls. And the parents let them wear them!

    ReplyDelete
  14. So sad . . . And, I'm with Michelle on those inappropriate costumes for little girls. What's wrong with these parents? What's wrong with society?

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's a sad time we live in. My boys would say I still think like I am in the stone ages. I did not train them that way!

    ReplyDelete
  16. How odd! Is there a page of men's costumes too, or do they stick to the traditional ghosts and vampires?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Whatever happened to witches, ghosts, and scarecrows.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I, too, was looking at costumes trying to get some ideas. Everything is aimed at looking trashy. I am not loving the direction our society has gone in.

    ReplyDelete
  19. well...you can count on me...I'm being monk and I'm gonna hold a dead squirrel on my tray that I found in between the walls when we demolished them...unless I am just a plain carpenter helper! If I do that I won't have to change clothes

    ReplyDelete
  20. I wish at the very least they wouldn't sexify cartoon character costumes..

    Ai @ Sakura Haruka

    ReplyDelete
  21. My friend dressed up as the Pope last year lol. That's quite the opposite of trashy :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. There is some serious choices there.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh yeah! I was at the party good store today too!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am guessing my comment above was not going to be read as sarcastic as I meant it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hi, thanks for your comment today on my blog and following me. I'm now following you. And um...my mind must run a different course, these remind me of dress ups for the Boudoir. Not that I know of these kinds of things. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thankfully, even though our daughter just turned 5, she has seen me in long skirts/dresses since she has been in existence, and she doesn't like short skirts. Praise God for that one! And, I am hoping that continues right through to the halloween costumes!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Can't a sistah find a Halloween costume that couldn't double as an amature-night-at-the-strip-club costume. Is that really so much to ask?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Trust me, I won't be wearing one of those. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. These are just HORRID! and it ruins the fun for the kids- so many adults are at parties dressed like this instead of at home waiting for trick or treaters :(

    ReplyDelete
  30. While not a fan of Halloween, I certainly believe it should NOT be taken over by adults...this ad is degrading and disgusting!

    ReplyDelete
  31. and pay through the nose for it as well...

...and I don't suppose any of those costumes are made in the USA?

    ReplyDelete
  32. We do not celebrate Halloween in Jamaica but based of what I have heard about it these are rather unusual costumes!

    ReplyDelete
  33. So true! Even some of the costumes for little girls are like that. There's no way I'd let my three-year-old wear them.

    ReplyDelete
  34. We don't have Halloween in Greece, but I know about it and it looks to me that the costume 'trend' has sort of shifted from funny-scary for kids to sexy-fun for adults. Yes, adults have the right to have fun but is 'this' really what Halloween is all about?

    ReplyDelete
  35. AND, I don't even pay those amounts for clothes I wear every day, much less ONE day! Yep, I'm cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't know any women who would dress in a costume like this. Maybe I'm leading a sheltered life. However, my former supervisor, who is 6'4" dressed in a bumble bee costume to make his 2-year old daughter happy.

And yes, he looked absolutely ridiculous. And we loved him for it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You surprised me again. I thought we might agree that women should not dress this way but I didn't expect that we would agree on the reason. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I hate all the costumes for women for Halloween, they are way too provocative.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Everything is commercialized today, it's all about the money and sex sells, the sad thing is we are forcing our daughters into thinking this is the way it should be by buying into these ad campaigns.

I remember the kids as ghosts, hobos, witches, and scarecrows, most of the costumes were homemade and there were no adults dressed as a streetwalker following along.

  40. Annmarie... Ah the times they are a changing! (And not for the best) Many, many years ago as a teenager, another guy and I went out dressed as an old man and an old woman. Yes, I was the woman and I certainly didn't do much for the image! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have never been a Halloween person... I only do it for the kids ... don't even go to any 'adult' parties! lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Maybe one of the reasons I've never like Halloween.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You will never see this with men. Why do we accept this???.......

    ReplyDelete
  44. Some of the aspects of Halloween are tasteless!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Gee, I have never seen anyone in costumes like those even though I get over 100 kids coming to my door (half teenagers) on that holiday. i have also been to quite a few Halloween parties and I never saw the likes of that. I guess you might see more of these in the city, but to each their own; I try not to judge.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I really dislike that they are all sexy costumes. I have to wear one for work. I'm a teacher. Do you know how hard it is to find a tasteful costume? I usually have to get creative and make my own.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes! Finally someone who agrees with my. As we were walking through the kids section at the costume store I kept saying how trampy every girls costume was. Why can't they just make a nice, cute costume without making it all whorish? We had such a hard time picking out costumes this year :(

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yes! That's such a pet peeve of mine.

    ReplyDelete
  49. There are a good number of people who use the night as an excuse to vamp it up (pardon the term) and I find it disagreeable. Even worse to me are the horror costumes (blood, knives in the head, yuck...and when a child's donning such a thing I can't help but wonder why).

    ReplyDelete
  50. So many choices.

    http://joycelansky.blogspot.com

    ReplyDelete
  51. never dressed up for a halloween and dont think i would be in the soon future.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I couldn't dress up like that, I like the witches and goblins for Halloween.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Woot! Halloween is coming here.

    ReplyDelete
  54. we dont have haloween here where i live but those dont look like the costumes i used to see people wearing

    ReplyDelete
  55. The problem with Halloween these days is it's all about getting money and lest face it...sex sells!! Maybe all these costumes should be banned and the true meaning of Halloween should be taught. After all how many people these days even know why there is a Halloween and why costumes were worn??

It's not huge in the UK so we don't see it quite so much but it's certainly there!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. So people are paying between $30-$60 to look like a $5 hooker?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hi Annmarie, have not attend any Halloween party but the cost of the costumes can burn a hole in the pocket. :(

Have a nice week ahead, regards.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sadly it's a sign of the times :-(

    ReplyDelete
  59. We don't celebrate Halloween like in the States, only a little and mostly for the children. But we celebrate Carneval in February and there you can find costumes like these once. If you are pretty and slim it would be OK but not for the other once, and that's unfortunately mostly the case !

    ReplyDelete
  60. It is sad how they all are the "same"

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh wow! Makes me a little glad there is no Halloween here!

    ReplyDelete
  62. That is an "inconvenient truth". So sad. So terribly sad.

    ReplyDelete
  63. In South Africa Holloween is seen as pagan and just not done. I am actually thankful for it. It is not safe enough to go around knocking on doors for treats...there are a lot of sick and dangerous people out there.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I think there are some crazy outfits people wear for Halloween that they call costumes, and they definitely shouldn't be. This helps prove it!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Well, stores wouldn't sell that kind of trash if the public didn't buy it. Scary. Not a BOO! kinda scary, but a "what in the world are women thinking?" kinda scary.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ugh so gross. Makes me think of Mean Girls when she talks about women getting to dress is lingerie, add some animal ears and people can't call them sluts. Like why is that okay?

    ReplyDelete
  67. I still can't believe that little girls dress this way! What happened to wanting to be scary and gorey???? I am not a mother, but I don't think I would EVER let my daughter wear a "sexy" version of halloween. ick.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  69. Hmm, never really got into Halloween - it is not that big in Germany...

  70. It's sad enuf to see what the college girls wear, but at least they're young adults making all their own decisions for the first time. But elementary aged girls, it's a line that too many people cross.
Although Cher costumes were big for some little girls way back when, that had a little more style & not many girls got to go hog wild with that one.

    ReplyDelete
  71. What is your favorite costume of all?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Too much, too much! Have a blessed day, HUGS!

    ReplyDelete
  73. how come all female costumes are called "naughty" nurse, student, witch etc....but not guys costumes...so sad...

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think I made some girls mad at the Spirit Halloween store yesterday because my dad and I were just browsing and I said "Let's go over to the slut costume wall" where you know, everyone flocks to for their sexy outfits brought to you by mostly Leg Avenue. We then had a conversation about how there's not even regular costumes for women available. And he was all "you used to dress slutty on Halloween" and I replied, "Yes, but I was a teenager and even then I made my costume so I could be exactly the kind of slut I wanted to, and not some mass produced objectification of women."

    ReplyDelete
  75. nice one :)) want all these costumes :D

    ReplyDelete
  76. To quote Sex in the City, women's choices are either sexy kitten or witch.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Makes me sad--and puzzled--when photos are posted on FB of 9 year olds having a spa day. But then I have no children and am not doing a great job training a puppy!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Dear momto8blog, I am not sure how you manage all these comments on your blog. I am new to the community and just learning. Personally, halloween is not my holiday but I do start to gear up for my holiday around this time. I love Christmas. Thanks for following my blog too!

  79. I KNOW!!!!!! I didn't want my young son looking at this catalog!!! He loves Halloween costumes and I had to hide this from him.

  80. I love the Pottery Barn Kids costumes. They are all about sweet and cute.
    hugs,

  81. I have never understood why costumes for women are the way they are. I prefer to come up with my own costumes!

    ReplyDelete
  82. You have been nominated for the Versatile Award! Congratulations! Check http://thegreekhousewife.blogspot.gr/2012/10/more-awards.html to find out about it!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Thank goodness Halloween comes only once a year!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Susan is right, stores would not carry these items if they did not sell. But ladies, please realize, YOU are the ones purchasing these things. You have the power to stop this insantity. And the men will love you all the more for it. Men really are not attracted one bit to the "Sex and the City" women and would rather not have their women wearing these costumes in public.

    ReplyDelete
  85. You always pick the topics that I'm so interested in! When I see what some teen girls are wearing it truly saddens me and disgust me!
Love what SportsFan had to say!

    ReplyDelete
  86. It's sad that women do not protect their virtue.

    ReplyDelete
  87. What ever happened to, on the eve of Reformation Day? That certainly changes the tone a bit!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yeah, I'm pretty sure every woman is a slut for Halloween these days. Appalling.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Is it sad that I look at that photo and pick out the cheapest ones and decide that I STILL wouldn't wear them?!?! LOL
