Easy Come. Easy Go.
This past Saturday we tried to get a handle on some neglected things around the house. Like the moss on the dormer roof shingles. I called two roof cleaning specialists and left messages but they never called back. So now I asked my husband to please clean the roof with the power washer. He said the power washer is too strong and will take the shingles off. I told him to please figure out how to not make it too strong and I went inside to make another list. This time I gave my daughter a specific grocery list asked her to also please get gas in my van. There was much commotion outside with the power washing, like 10 boys playing basketball in the driveway all watching the moss magically coming off the shingles, the dog barking at the noise the power washer is making and my husband balancing with one hand holding the rickety ladder. As my daughter is watching all of these people and backing out ...CRASH! over the curb with the van. Sounded like an explosion. I came out to see but she was driving away. 10 minutes later she called my husband and said the van won't steer. $700 to repair....guess that is the money we saved on the roofers. Meanwhile I am in the house writing lists for the rest of the kids. It is so hot! I look at the thermostat, 84 degrees. HOT! with the A/C on. I found the name of the heat pump man who serviced us last, and called him. He said it will cost $75 extra on Saturday. I said ok, please come today. No one could believe I didn't wait till Monday..very unlike me to spend the extra money, but I knew how busy the week was plus I wanted my husband to be here to help make decisions. Joe the serviceman arrives, looks at everything and says he will order the parts and be back on Monday. Oh and BTW, today is the last day of the warranty..so it was a good thing I came out...would have cost at least $1200, but now it's fully covered. ,

Thank goodness for that warranty!!!
ReplyDeleteWay to go! :)
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you are having a week like I had last week. I guess you win some and you lose some - but you came out ahead! Love, sandie
ReplyDeleteClose one!! Good thing you called!
ReplyDeleteWhen it rains, it pours but at least you actually saved yourself some money.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is WOW! Not sure where to begin, but it kind of fits for each of the situations, lol!
ReplyDeleteWell, thank goodness the warranty worked out. That's a blessing all by itself!!!!!!
ReplyDeletethank goodness for a warranty!!
ReplyDeleteOh That never happens, glad you called and did not wait til Monday.
ReplyDeleteMy roof is getting a full restoration this week pressure cleaned, replace cracked tiles and painted - the cost? $5000! Yes you read right 5 grand! Lucky you dont live in Australia :)
ReplyDeleteAnnamarie, I honestly feel your pain. I am so glad you will have your warranty.
ReplyDeleteIt's a running joke at our house - as soon as we come into some unexpected money or seem to have extra, an unexpected expense seems to pop up.
ReplyDeleteHurray for the warranty.
ReplyDeleteWarranties can be really great things- so glad it worked out for you!
ReplyDeleteSo in spite of everything going on, it turned out to be your lucky day.
ReplyDeleteoh snap...thank goodness on the warranty eh? ugh on the car...that stinks....
ReplyDeleteThank heaven for the warranty, but too bad about the van.
ReplyDeletePraise God.
ReplyDeleteSo you win some and lose some. I'd say you had a pretty hectic day. About the only thing that didn't happen was someone falling off the roof. I wonder how much that would have cost?
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for the warranty! In all of this, it seems to be your silver lining.
ReplyDeleteGotta love those warranties! Glad everything worked out. Sort of.
ReplyDeleteYour lucky you called when you did for the A/C. Your house sounds very busy. I love a busy house with all the family around.
ReplyDeleteWHAT A DAY!!!!! I hope it calmed down after that! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteAnnmarie, thank you for your comment re my little 'pose soft'. She wanted me to take that picture with the little pine cone, that she had deemed so 'cute'. Your were so lucky you had a warranty. Those are life-savers some times.
ReplyDeletewhew! well, you lose some, you win some! :))
ReplyDeleteSounds like busy Saturday. That is great that you are getting the AC fixed under warranty. We keep a warranty in place on our house just for our AC because it is so necessary in the Arizona summers and so expensive to fix! Good for you. Enjoy the rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteAnnmarie, That was one heck of a day! Very lucky on the warranty too. My warranteed items always break down the week after the warranty expired... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteCrazy! When things happen, they really do HAPPEN! Praise God for the warranty still active.
ReplyDelete<><
Oh...that's good. Warranty trouble averted! Score..Sorry for the van.
ReplyDeleteWe all work to live...but sometimes snap decisions we wouldn't usually make can benefit us. You made a good call on the A/C. Hope it soon gets fixed!!
ReplyDeleteGood call!
ReplyDeleteWhen one looks at a day and how one event leads to another it makes me think of the movie Sliding Doors. And of course everyone feels better when they can keep cool when it is roasting everywhere else> Well done, hopefully it is working perfectly now.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Your title says it all... Hoping you are enjoying your AC (phew on the warranty!), driving safely in a van that steers properly (and $700 worth), and living under a moss free roof. :) your life is a daily adventure!
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Steph
that's what you can say lose some win more! :-D
ReplyDeleteSpanish Pinay
Oh, wow, what a day! Thank goodness, though, for that warranty, or you would certainly be out of a chunk of change. Isn't it amazing how things happen like that sometimes?
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you!
Things have a way of snowballing don't they?
ReplyDeleteJane x
Your life should be a tv series...with that title..so funny without really trying...I would totally watch it!
ReplyDeleteThey say it happens in 3's :) Thank goodness for the warranty!!!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness the warrenty was still good. Too bad about the van though...but your daughter learned a lesson there.Maybe the boys playing ball did too, watching all this. Sometimes, I feel , wow will I ever get ahead....then I read other's blogs and know I am not alone. You are in my thoughts, Susie
ReplyDeleteStressful times! Luckily you called the serviceman when you did! Warranties are a beautiful thing. That stinks about the van. Best of luck with everything!!!
ReplyDeleteI love warranties..I especially love when something breaks and it is still in play. I consider it very lucky on your part that the timing worked out for you. I would say you are a very lucky person but "the whole no one returning your phone calls, daughter running up on the curb, steering won't work" kind of puts it more in the category of "one step forward, two (or more) steps back".
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad about the van, but great news about the A/C. Weather you were trying or not, your post was amusing :)
ReplyDeleteFollowing from Finding New Friends Weekend Blog Hop- looking forward to reading more from you!
OH My! I would have properly chased my daughter down the street. I can see me now...running and screaming to STOP!
ReplyDeleteThat's how my luck always go and why I would never cancel any insurance I have. If I did...like the house insurance for example. If I dropped it, the house would burn down that day.
Sorry about the Van. Hope the daughter was OK and you will give her the key back one day.
SO COOL!
ReplyDeleteWow, it's a good thing that you didn't procrastinated or it would have cost you a bundle. JB
ReplyDeleteI guess everything balances itself out in one way or another. Glad you didn't wait on that ac repair. That's a lot of repair bills to be hit with all at once!
ReplyDeleteComing in with a one-day warranty before repair...THAT is seeing beautiful! The wreck? Not so much. It could have been worse though.
ReplyDeleteSending see beautiful thoughts your way!
That extra $75 dollars to come on a Saturday paid off. The story about the wreck was, unfortunately, funny to read about. I do feel your pain for the cost of it though.
ReplyDeleteOh that was quite a lot of things coming full circle!
ReplyDeleteThe best savings of all was the warranty coverage for a very timely phone call!
Did all the roof shingles stay on? I've been wondering if power washers can be tamed a bit!
*God's Blessings and Grace to you and your family*

What a day....so glad your warranty was still valid...close call.
ReplyDeleteGod is good, even when we aren't looking. Love a warranty, bummer on the van. I love a power washer. They are like magic. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see it is actually possible to get lucky with a warranty instead of just missing it!
ReplyDelete=)
That sounds like crap, I know days like those, I have them as well.. Good thing you have the warranty dear!
ReplyDeleteXO, Imke
It sound like you've got a full house :( But considering you are the mom to 8, I trust your skills to pull everything together asap :)
ReplyDeleteHugs
Yaa for no more moss.
ReplyDeleteBuggar about the car repair bill.
SCORE on your air con still being under warranty!
Yup, its unfortunate on the expense.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit to my blog. You got excellent blog here, keep posting :)
I'm following your blog and added myself in your "networkedblogs" as well. Invite you to get added in Networked blog in my page :)
We are also starting some fall chores early. :/ I have noticed 8 new ant hills in the yard (they were evicted from my kitchen in June) and have a few shrubs that need cut back before I get a letter from the neighborhood beautification committee :/ It's like it never stops though. :( Great posting btw!
ReplyDeleteWell you're much more industrious than I am! I've been meaning to scrub the mould off the laundry ceiling for weeks but I keep putting it off. If I wait much longer, it'll all join up and look like I have a really grey ceiling ... ooh, that's an idea! Then I won't have to worry about ever cleaning it again!
ReplyDeleteSometimes when it rains it pours.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
M :)
It is the oddest thing that just before coming to visit your blog, I was reading through my post titled, "Seasons" in which I begin quoting Ecclesiastes, "There is a time to laugh and a time to cry, a time to live and a time to die...etc." I thought about how I just came through such a season as this, and how the Lord led me to that scripture using the very mundane narrating of a PBS "Nature" episode wherein the narrator explains that if the grass is buried beneath too much snow the following winter, it would be the musk ox's turn to suffer. Their turn to suffer. It was my turn to suffer. I noticed while reading this entry of yours how God already made provisions to see you through your turn as well. The money saved from the roofer went for van repairs, etc. He really watches over us well!!
ReplyDeleteOh man...so glad the roof was covered by the warranty....butsweat a bummer about the van. Ugh!!!
ReplyDeleteyou are one lucky lady!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness it was covered! But well the van, sorry to hear that. My sister works at a garage door company and says so much of their business comes from teenagers backing or driving into the garage door!
ReplyDeleteHi Annmarie!!Thank you a lot for your kind words on Sara Arts blog, about my interview!!
ReplyDeleteIt means a lot to me receiving nice comments!
...what an adventure you had! ..I'm hoping everything is ok now!
Pleased to meet you!
Laura
Bad things come in 3's...that's all I have to say! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWish you a better day today and an amazing weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteWow! A lot of stuff happening there. Not all good, eh? Well, you got through the day and now a better day, right? I'm your newest follower. Glad to find you!
ReplyDeleteGlad it worked out! If it were 84 degrees in our home I would have them come out asap! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYour timing was perfect. We don't have ac. but then in Michigan there are only about 2 to 4 weeks which are triple digit weather...We manage with fans and energy conservation. All the trees around my home help a lot too.
ReplyDeletethanks for following my blog this evening! i followed you back, dear!
ReplyDeleteWhew! That was close, praise God for small mercies even on a day like that.
