When The Mom Gets Purple Glasses

My vision is pretty good. Better than most 50 year old women.  I need glasses when I drive at night or when we get nosebleed seating. My 5 years old, 8$ on line prescription glasses broke, finally, they were hanging on by a pin anyway.  So yesterday I asked the optician how much money the insurance will pay towards new glasses...he pointed to one single row of plastic frames, out of a wall of frames.  It really didn't matter too much to me what they looked like, I would only be wearing them when I drive. The first pair I tried on, the cheapest, but purple, looked OK.  Good enough anyway. Took about 30 seconds to decide. While I was waiting for the clerk to place the order I texted my husband and my daughter. She is the art major daughter who probably had that color hair at one time in her life. So I wrote, "I got purple glasses." Well this must have sounded completely radical! They texted back immediately with a host of questions. What? Purple? For you? Are you going to wear them everyday?  I guess this must have totally upset the apple cart.  I know I am very predictable. I have used the same  #24 medium brown hair dye for years, flats never heals, no more than 2 drinks at a time...and this new information was throwing them for a loop. That is just amazing to me, that in this age of immunity to shock, my new purple glasses could be such a shocker!

  6. Sounds like you need to shake things up a bit more often! Predictable frequently segues into boring and uninteresting. Those are two words you really don't want people to use when they think about you!! You might be amazed at the fun it can bring about!! :)

I can't wait to see a photo of you with those purple glasses. I thought I was bold when I went and changed from metal to black. LOVE them.

Isn't it great when we can still keep them guessing about us?

Have a glorious evening sweet friend, Sherry

  15. Listen, next time you go shopping text them that you bought red underwear...they will think you are going through a mid-life crisis and won't be able to do enough for you....well, either that or they will start watching you for signs of early dementia~ xo Diana

  16. I was going to get earring cuffs once for the upper part of the ear. They were little, not gaudy, but my oldest daughter immediately reacted negatively and I left them at the store without purchasing. Why do we let them pigeonhole us? I usually do that to myself, but when I step out once to do something different the children are appalled! Can you see better with them? Do they match your skin tone? Enjoy.

  41. LOL!! Next thing you know you will be getting the red ones too. I think glasses are accessories anymore. It is perfectly OK to get a fun color sometimes. Life is too short to always pick the tortoise brown or classic black. I would love to see a picture of you modeling them.

  46. You think purple glasses get a reaction, you should try purple hair. It not only upsets the apple cart it rolls it over and stomps on it. Purple hair was the first adventure I have done on my list because it was so radical for me I about died to have to go new church "shopping" with purple hair. But radical thinking opens up our world to amazing things. So you go girl with your purple glasses! Who knows what is next!

  47. You go girl! You should snap a picture with you and the purple glasses! :)

(http://dottybluebird.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/i-can-see-clearly-now.html) but then my family expect a certain amount of "quirkiness" from me.

I think purple glasses sound gorgeous and aren't we meant to wear purple at a certain stage of life? It's good to let your family know you can surprise them!

    ReplyDelete
